Summer Weight Management Tips and Tools
Don’t throw in the towel on managing your weight this summer!
With a little planning, you can stick to your HMR plan and still enjoy
summertime activities with friends and family:
Cookouts –
- Grill vegetables like summer squash, eggplant, bell peppers,
portabella mushrooms, or corn-on-the-cob, and pair them with
an HMR Entree, such as HMR Chicken with Barbeque Sauce with Rice
and Beans.
Picnics and Potlucks –
- Bring a fruit salad or vegetable salad to share.
- Prepare HMR 70 Plus Chocolate pudding, and serve with strawberries
and low-fat whipped topping for dessert.
Traveling –
- Make a double HMR Shake and put it in a travel mug to sip
in the car.
- Bring along a hand blender and/or a shaker container to make
shakes while away from home.
- Put a hot HMR Entree and vegetables
in a thermos for a daytrip.
- Prepare cut-up fruits and vegetables
in zip-lock bags and put in a small cooler in your car.
- Pack
cups, spoons, bottled water and packets of HMR 70 Plus to make
puddings anywhere, even on a plane. (In a pinch, you don’t
even need a cup —some
people have prepared 70 Plus pudding right in the packet!)
Traveling On-the-Road Without Ice or Water?
Here’s
a quick way to prepare your shake—Go to the
self-serve soda dispenser at a fast food restaurant or convenience
store. Fill half a large cup with diet cola, diet orange soda,
or diet root beer. Add 1-2 servings of HMR Vanilla Shake mix and
stir well. Add more soda and stir again. Back on the road in no
time!
Exercise for Your Brain’s Sake
Did you
know there are major mental benefits of regular
exercise? As we age, neurons in the brain slowly start to die off,
affecting memory and the ability to learn. Until recently, scientists
thought this was permanent. Not so! A recent study conducted by the
National Academy of Sciences showed that people who worked out for
three months seemed to grow new nerve cells in the area of the brain
which controls learning and memory. Those with the greatest gains
in cardiovascular fitness grew the most new neurons. In essence,
the aging of this part of the brain is reversed by consistent
exercise.
